Jeff Bezos’s mother, Jackie Bezos, died on August 14, 2025, at her home in Miami, surrounded by close family. In a statement, the Bezos Scholars Program described her as a compassionate force whose life was defined by resilience, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to others.

Born Jacklyn Gise on December 29, 1946, in Washington, D.C., she moved with her family to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she became a mother at the age of 17.

While still in high school, she gave birth to her first child, Jeff. As a single teen mother, she worked at a bank during the day and attended night school, determined to build a future for herself and her son.

In 1968, she married Miguel "Mike" Bezos, a Cuban immigrant and coworker at the bank. Their union marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership rooted in love and shared values. Together, they raised a close-knit family and supported one another through decades of personal and professional milestones.

Jackie later became known for her dedication to youth, education, and opportunity. As a co-founder and champion of the Bezos Scholars Program, she mentored young leaders across the U.S., helping create pathways for high-achieving students to engage in public service and innovation.

Further into his message, Bezos shared that Jackie had been living with a degenerative neurological condition.

"After a long fight with Lewy Body Dementia, she passed away today, surrounded by so many of us who loved her — her kids, grandkids, and my dad. I know she felt our love in those final moments. We were all so lucky to be in her life. I hold her safe in my heart forever," he said.

The family extended their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and close friends who cared for Jackie in her final years. In lieu of flowers, they encouraged donations to a nonprofit organization or a simple act of kindness in her memory. Jackie is survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren.
