The journalist from Cali, Valle del Cauca, worked for various media outlets, including RCN, where she was part of the "Mañana Express (Morning Express)" show, as well as on Canal Red Más, City TV, Telepacífico, and Canal Capital.

According to RCN Televisión, her death on August 10, 2025, the day of her 43rd birthday, shocked the media community.

An Announcement That Was Delayed

Her death was publicly confirmed four days after it happened. María Rojas, one of her closest friends, explained on the podcast "La Red Viral (The Viral Network)" that the decision to delay the news was made with the journalist's mother in order to protect her memory and avoid speculation.

Rojas, who is also from Cali, recalled that she and the journalist met in Bogotá during the Nuestra Tierra (Our Land) Awards.

"We were like sisters," she said. "We'd known each other and been friends for over 20 years. She was like my big sister, and I was like her little sister." She also described her as "an incredible woman, a very professional woman, and nothing but love."

A Difficult Period

Despite her professional recognition, Gómez was going through a period of "emotional instability" that led her to resign from "Mañana Express."

Although Rojas did not go into detail about the circumstances surrounding her friend's passing out of respect for the family during the podcast, she mentioned that a romantic breakup with a colleague may have influenced her state of mind, adding, "Sometimes we love too much and in that love, we lose ourselves."

When the host asked if Gómez was going through a "moment of crisis" that led her to make "that choice," Rojas commented, "She was going through a somewhat difficult emotional moment, as I had already said, and sometimes when you feel bad, you don't think things through and you make decisions."

In her account, she also recalled that the journalist was trying to rebuild herself, "She was dancing salsa because she loved salsa. She was also boxing because she loved it. She had started reading stories. She even attended a workshop for reading stories."

A Farewell Message

Through tears, Rojas added, "Wherever she is right now, I believe she is already much better and is at peace." Towards the end of the interview, when the host asked what she would say to Gómez, the heartbroken woman replied:

"She knows that I loved her, I love her, and I'll continue to love her with all my heart. She was my sister, and I'm going to miss her because we had so many plans. And maybe at another time in life, when God gives us the chance to be together again somewhere, we'll fulfill all her dreams, because she had many dreams and plans left to fulfill."

On Instagram, Gómez wrote in her last post, "Should I read to you? 📕📚 Light is like water!✨ I'd be so happy if I got paid to read 📖." In the video, she began reading the story. Among the comments she received, several stood out.
